April - Earth

"Oh how lovely was the morning...." We were able to have our first in person Relief Society activity this month. What a wonderful way to start by providing service at the Sotterley Plantation gardens. President Nelson said that, "We can give thanks for the beauties of the earth..." . It was a perfect day to  help in our community. Sis. Nola Frazier was able to set this all up for us. We are grateful also for her and she is amazing at pulling weeds too.  It was so enjoyable to dig in the dirt and visit with each other.

According to scienceworld.ca "Scientists have discovered that the mycobacterium found in soil can improve brain functions while boosting moods. The mycobacterium vaccae found in the soil increases serotonin produced in the brain (also known as the “happy” chemical). By getting your hands dirty, you’re also making your brain happy!"

We all went home a little happier and maybe a bit sore from pulling weeds but it was really nice to have something that felt a little bit like getting back to normal.

  1. I know many of you were unable to make it to Sotterley and we missed you. Lydia was so happy to be able to visit and connect with others. There is something healing about being in a garden. When I have been able to visit the Temple and enjoy the grounds, I feel like the angels dance there and it brings me joy.

  2. I love all the flowers in bloom right now and the trees filled with blossoms or leaves makes the earth feel so full and colorful. One of my favorite scriptures is in Doctrine and Covenants 59:18 where it says all things which come of the earth in the season thereof are made for the benefit and the use of man, both to please the eye and to gladden the heart. What a kind and loving Heavenly Father to provide such beauty for us to be happy.
